A local commercial bank has re-committed itself by renewing its sponsorship with Windhoek-based Wanderers Rugby Club for the next three years.
The sponsorship is worth N$200 000 and a further amount of N$80 000 to an organising committee consisting of
FNB Wanderers and Western Suburbs to arrange an annual derby between the two clubs. FNB’s head strategic marketing and communication, Dixon Norval said the sponsorship is aimed at developing the sport at both club and national levels.
Norval also said that the bank will give an additional amount of N$50 000 every season to Wanderers if they win the Namibia Rugby Premier League (NRPL).
“We also understand the importance of developing sport, including the game of rugby. We also have taken a giant leap in terms of development of rugby at national level by sponsoring the International Rugby Board (IRB) long term development plan called ‘Get into Rugby’,” said Norval. Chairman of Wanderers, Flip Louw said the club deserves the sponsorship as it is the leading club in the country that has more players in the current Welwitschias side taking part in this year’s Vodacom Cup.
“To date, 16 of our players are being considered by the Namibia Rugby Union (NRU).
The club can only further improve on this in the future by showing our support for rugby,” said Louw.
